for me this recent tsunami disaster was over the top, i'm beyond understanding and i'm not going to say this article helped me understand any better but it did show me that x-jw's aren't the only ones who struggle with such questions.

Simon was asking if there are more Benny Hinn faith healer types around and I recall another thread sometime ago discussing other so-called faith healers. Although Benny Hinn is one of the most well known of these charlatans over here in North American TV audiences, there are others that are just as popular in some of the 3rd world countries. You notice that most of his followers are lowly educated, co-dependant, dysfunctional types that are desperately looking for answers but are being taken in by these scam artists. It is so sad but what can one do.

Just watched the first part of the show again and Benny is nothing but a liar. I can't understand why the government has not brought fraud charges against him. I guess you can do anything under the guise of a fairtale that they call a religion.

When you think about all the horrible, truly newsworthy stuff that's going on locally and around the world, it is amazing that for a full year people chose to let themselves be duped into following a court case that is of absolutely no consequence to them.
You are correct that we have been sidetracked with this sensationalizing of this minor news event from some of the real tragedies in this world. Why innocent men, woman and children are dying everyday and all we get is a brief 30 second clip on the news and is forgotten. Seems like the American public laps up this type of dramatising "soap opera" event. To most people its all a big movie production.
As far as the death sentence, I have to agree with bigboi. I think he should have got life in prison but a death sentence for a case based entirely on circumstantial evidence is rather harsh. There is no going back if he is executed and then later found out to be innocent.

in looking at so many post over time, i've come to the conclusion that so many of us as witnesses, seemingly have a predisposition towards emotional disorders and mental illness.
just reading some of the post on suicide, i get the feeling that there is some subtle force that exhibits itself in the teaching in the kh that can have a tendency to draw this kind of energy out of someone.
i couldn't see it while on the inside, now that i'm out ,however, i can see things so much differently.
I have a nephew that has emotional problems due to the high control of the JW. He cannot see that the problem is the religion but still tries his best by reaching out and becoming an elder. He doesn't realize that that his emotional problems are all caused by this controlled environment but keeps trying to do his best. I do feel somewhat for him as I remember growing up I also would try my best but it was never good enough. One just has to learn to love themselves and except themselves for who they are and not try and seek approval from some man made organization.

at the field service, at the meetings, before each meal and even more.. i don't know if you're like me, but i didn't pray because i felt like it, but because i was told to.. personally, 1 long honest prayer a week would have been much better than 20 routine prayers.
did you feel that it was natural to pray 3 times a day or more?.
I did try too be the good Jdub and pray before I went to bed and I would end up falling asleep. When I realized that there was no personal God to answer my prayers, I thought what is the point, it was a complete waste of time.
